27.06.08 The Situated Technologies project focuses on how various mobile, embedded, networked, and distributed forms of media, information and communication systems inform urban space. The project recently published Urban Versioning System 1.0. by Matthew Fuller and Usman Haque. Written in the form of a quasi-license the pamphlet posits seven constraints towards an open source urbanism that radically challenges the conventional ways in which cities are constructed. With the title Toward the Sentient city, Situated Technologies and the Architetural League of New York also commission teams to develop urban interventions for a 2009 exhibition. The request for team qualifications closes today (full proposals for projects are not required at this stage).
